Our School

The name of the school, Le Phare, is a French word that means “beacon” or “lighthouse.” The school is located in the Beacon Hill area of Ottawa, Ontario and is part of the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board
Le Phare E.S. was the first school in Canada to be built as an Early French Immersion Centre. It has a unique architectural “pod” design. Each of the school’s four instructional areas has a central pod lit by a skylight, which is surrounded by four rooms with interior glass walls. The central areas provide a space where students can enjoy their nutrition breaks, work together using hands-on materials or discover learning activities outside their classroom.
The pods converge at "La Galerie d’Art", a central section with stairs that surround an area used for small presentations, music instruction and displaying student artwork.
Le Phare’s large gym allows for an excellent program in physical education and provides space for assemblies and school social events. Le Phare also has a well-equipped bilingual library and age-suitable outdoor play structures.

Le Phare Elementary School belongs to the
Ottawa Carleton District School Board.
